  1. Hi Rachel! I would like to start by saying the art you chose is absolutely beautiful, and the way your blog is set up so far is so aesthetically pleasing with the art and color schemes, all very consistent! I also thought the intro was really well written and directly too the point, aside from the descriptions of the 3 kami, there wasn't a lot of detail necessary which is really nice when people are just browsing through. I'll be honest I've heard of these 3 figures so much in references to current pop culture but I had no knowledge of their origins. Just from your short intros of the 3 things are starting to make sense! I love East Asian mythology, I'm actually also writing my storybook in various East Asian folklore. I think I'm already invested in your storybook, I can't wait to read some of your stories later on!

  2. Hi Rachel,

Wonderful website layout that you have! From the beginning, it looks like as if a manuscript was transcribed into a modern website. As far as the theme of the story as provided in the introduction itself, I've always been fascinated by the content of Japanese mythology and folklore. In fact, for one of the projects of world religions in my World History class in high school, I actually chose Shintoism as the religion that I was going to focus on! I do wonder, however, what exactly will your storybook be about? From your introduction, I presume that it will involve the Kamis, but in what ways? Will you be giving biographies of each one of the Kamis you mentioned? Will the stories be interconnected? If so, how? I think answering some of these questions will provide a good preface for the stories that you will be providing later on this semester!

  3. Hello, I really enjoyed your introduction and thought that it was very helpful. I know nothing about Shinto myths or Shintoism so I really appreciated the background information. This will probably help me out tremendously when it comes to reading your stories and help me have a better understanding of them. I also though it was super cool and creative to add pictures of your main characters with the descriptions of who they are. This will help the readers really imagine these characters as they read the stories. I also like how you also kind of gave a first look into your stories and what to expect. Overall, I really enjoyed your introduction and I am really excited to read the rest of your stories!

  4. Hi Rachel! I am so interested in your storybook! My grandma is Japanese and my dad was born there, but he never learned of the stories in the culture so I cannot wait to explore more of them through your stories. I think you did well in adding some background information before fully submerging the reader into the myths. This will help them better understand the meaning and messages behind the myths. My only big thing would be that I very much enjoy your cover page, but it is a bit busy. Your image is great and so is your title, but together it seems a bit overwhelming so I wonder if you could blur the background a little more to tone it down and bring out your title more. Overall Rachel you have me very excited to check back and see what you have added on and the depth that you go into to retell these beautiful stories.

  5. Rachel, your writing is absolutely beautiful! From the very beginning your descriptions of the setting flow together so well, and foreshadow the plot so well. I think I noticed it the most in the beginning, when everything was peaceful and in harmony, and then later on in the story when conflict struck and the descriptors used definitely conveyed that! I thought the story of Izanagi and Izanami was beautiful and tragic. I was not familiar with these myths before reading this, I only knew the names and roughly what they were associated with, but I didn't realize that so many of these figures arose from Izanami's demise. I love creation myths, so I'll definitely be back to read more later! If I forgot to mention it earlier, I also thought way you designed and formatted your blog was also very fitting, especially the color scheme and art! Overall, great job!

  6. Hi Rachel!
I really like your storybook so far. Japanese legends is an area of myth and folklore that I don’t know anything about so I liked getting to read about it from your perspective! I know you cant help it at all because It’s from the original stories but I kept mixing up the husband and wife’s names because of the similar spelling! Other than that I really enjoyed the story. After reading your author’s note it’s clear that Izanami is portrayed as a much nicer character in your version than in the originals. I can’t believe she wanted to kill so many people each day and all because she was upset… I personally don’t think that’s a good excuse at all.... I love how you had her basically falling apart at the seams at the end of story because she had eaten the food. I think that it fit how she was rotting from the inside from her anger before she died. Great job Rachel!

  7. Hi Rachel, the clean cut look and style of your storybook is beautiful. All of the images are gorgeous and fun to inspect. In the introduction I like how you set up all the information of the general storybook but then had the individual blurbs about the stories that are going to be covered was done very well. For the first story, it's one that I haven't read but your author's note was informative so I know exactly how this rendition came about. It's interesting that some information was left out because the story was still seamless and since I hadn't read the original stories I now want to go back and see what is different versus what you kept the same. Going back to how clean everything is, in your story the layout of your post is great and I want to figure out how to align pictures to paragraphs as well because the placement of the images where they fit with the story worked out perfectly.

  8. Hey Rachel,
I think the style and layout of your story is very pretty! I think you chose really great images that are really pretty and add so much meaning to your project. I loved your introduction and how clearly you laid everything out! I think you website is super accessible and I really appreciate that! I am really unfamiliar with Japanese literature and you did a great job at introducing me to the topic. I think one thing you could do to make your stories a little easier to read is to change some of the names from the original story, some of the names are very similar and hard to tell apart. Other than that and a few simple grammatical errors, your project is awesome! Great job overall!

  9. Hi Rachel. I love the visual representation of your storybook. It is beautiful, organized, and fun to look at. I think your storybook is easy to navigate as well which is extremely important for viewers. I loved your introduction post as well. Those are my favorite posts to read because I love getting to know my classmates better. I think your story was great as well. The layout was well written and overall flowed very well. You were extremely creative and made good use of your word choice. It was fun for me to read Japanese literature because I do not normally read stories like that. Your story was fun and exciting to read. I think overall you have done a great job with everything and I hope you have a great rest of your semester.
